ORŪGĀ is a contemporary, material-led artistic practice rooted in touch, pressure, and process. Working primarily with clay and mineral-based materials, the work explores surface as a place where the hand remains visible.
Rather than pursuing refinement, ORŪGĀ allows gesture, repetition, and irregularity to shape each piece. Clay is treated as both structure and surface. Pressed, layered, and marked through direct contact.
ORŪGĀ is led by Andres Santa, a Colombian-born artist based in Australia. His practice began with functional ceramic forms and has since expanded into painterly and sculptural surfaces, where clay, painting, and mixed materials coexist within a single language.
The work is guided by process rather than outcome. Forms emerge through making, allowing traces of movement, pressure, and time to remain present.
ORŪGĀ is not medium-specific. It is an ongoing exploration of material and touch where making is left visible.
